The Summer Engineering Program gives college Engineering majors the opportunity to gain practical experience and earn money during the summer as interns with the Arizona Department of Transportation. The Intermodal Transportation Division assigns students to a variety of highway construction projects, or to special studies within the Division. The type of work interns perform depends on the needs of the Department and may vary according to the Groups and Districts to which they are assigned. Approximately two thirds of the interns will work within the major metropolitan areas. |
Qualifications:
In order to apply for these positions, applicants must:
- have completed 30 semester hours
- be a full time student
- be a declared Engineering major
- or they must have graduated from high school, applied to and been accepted at a university or college with a Civil Engineering major
- All applicants must have a valid driver's license
Applying to the Program:
Interns are hired through standard procedures of the State of Arizona. Positions are advertised sometime around the first of the year, and interviews are conducted in March and April. Candidate selections are announced in May and employment usually begins after the end of the spring semester. Resumes must be submitted through the State Jobs Web site at www.azstatejobs.gov.

- an unofficial copy of their college transcripts
- their projected graduation date
- the type of degree they are obtaining
- any previous work history
